The family will receive friends and relatives at the Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. 4th St., Watkins Glen, on Monday, January 27, from 12noon-2:00pm; followed by a funeral service at 2:00pm. Robert was born on March 24, 1926 in Corning, NY, the oldest of six children of the late Francis and Carrie Hillman. He was also predeceased by his wife Wanda, and brother Thomas Hillman. He is survived by sisters, Barbara (Carlton) Fawcett of Big Flats, and Sally Richardson of Corning; brothers, William (Marlene) Hillman of Campbell, and John Hillman, Sr. of Erin. Bob worked for Corning Glass in the Corelle Ware Division as a Process Engineer; earning a patent for Pressing Glass Articles. He graduated from Corning Free Academy in 1944, and served in the Army Air Corps, and was stationed at Clark Air Base in the Philippines. In the late 1940's and early 1950's, Bob played semi pro football with the Corning All-High team. Along with his brother Tom, they became known as the "Book Ends". Playing throughout New York State, the team was undefeated for three consecutive seasons. His other interests included raising beagles, earning many trophies and ribbons, including two New York State Field Champions. He also loved to hunt, fish and play golf. Bob's love for Dixie Land Jazz, lead him to help form the Annual Hector Jazz Festival that helped support Schuyler Hospital. In Corning, he helped form and coach the first Cinderella Softball League. He was a member of the Watkins Glen BPOE Lodge No. 1546 and was a Trustee. Through his service and leadership, he helped in the 1994-1995 renovation efforts of the lodge.
