BIRMINGHAM Dr. Robert Harpole Davis passed away January 2, 2007 after an eight year struggle with lymphoma. He was born February 15, 1940 in Gordo, Alabama and raised in Sulligent, Alabama.Dr. Davis is preceded in death by his father, Dr. John Lee Davis, Jr., mother, Mrs. Estelle Bailey Davis of Sulligent, and by his brother, Dr. Stanton Bailey Davis, Sr. of Birmingham, Alabama.Dr. Davis is survived by his wife, Doris Herold Davis; son, Michael David Davis (Susie); daughter, Amanda Davis Brocato (Frank III); two grandchildren, Frank Brocato IV and Isabella Davis Brocato (due February 2007), all of Birmingham, Alabama. He is also survived by big brother, Dr. John Lee Davis, III (Betty) of Arcadia, Oklahoma; his beloved sister, Mrs. Sally Davis Comer (Dr. Sidney Comer) of Raleigh, North Carolina; Mrs. Betty Bailey Davis of Birmingham, Alabama; and Lt. Col. Darrell and Betty Egbert of Washington, Utah. Dr. Davis is also survived by first cousins, Dr. Joe Davis, Mr. Richard Bailey of Gordo, and Mr. Ken Bailey of Aliceville.Pallbearers will be Ben Hollis, Ronnie Jones, Don Davis, Dr. Del Shofner, Dr. John Marshall and Dr. Norman Carlson.Honorary pallbearers will be Mrs. Gracie Rushing, Gloria and Jim Clayton, Peggy and Danny Ballard, Mary and Henry Ensor, Michelle and Ken Dunnington, all staff of the Center for Cosmetic Dentistry, friends at St. Mark United Methodist Church, Genesis Sunday School class, friends of Greystone Legacy Place, Mrs. Judy Smith, Jerry and Kathie Cooper and Mr. Ronnie Strawbridge.Dr. Davis graduated from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Science degree. He then attended and graduated from the University of Alabama School of Dentistry with a D.M.D. degree in 1966. He spent the next five years in the United States Public Health Service where he did general practice residency and was Chief of Dental Service at the Memphis, Tenn. U.S.P.H.S. Outpatient Clinic before moving to Northport, Alabama in 1971.Dr. and Mrs. Davis opened their dental office in Northport in 1971. He concentrated on patient care and Mrs. Davis managed the business side. The practice grew rapidly until the present day and is now operated by Dr. John Marshall, Dr. Del Shofner, and Dr. Van Phan.Dr. Davis wanted to especially recognize his patients who, over the years, became not only his patients but his friends. He loved to sing to his patients and often could be heard humming, whistling or singing throughout the office. He often said, "The Lord said to 'make a joyfull noise' and that's what I'm doing."The family wishes to thank everyone who showed such great kindness during these trying times, and a special thank you to the staff of UAB's 9th Floor (Wallace); Dr. Davis had nothing but great praise for these "Angels". Special thanks to Pastors Jim Savage, John Ray, and Jack Hinnen of Riverchase United Methodist Church.The family will receive friends Friday, January 5, 2007 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Southern Heritage Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, January 6, 2007 at Southern Heritage Chapel with Rev. Jim Savage and Rev. John Ray officiating and graveside services to follow.Memorials may be made to Riverchase United Methodist Church, Hoover, Alabama, or Saint Mark United Methodist Church, Northport, Alabama.
