GOODWIN, Robert Desmond 1926 - 2005 Desmond died peacefully at the age of 78 after a courageous 5 year battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife Joan (Christie), beloved daughters Janet (Bruce) and Susan (Andrew), sister Rosemary and brother David. He will be lovingly remembered by his 14 nieces and nephews, and sadly missed by grandchildren Andrew, Jeffrey, Christie and Desmond. Desmond was born in Antigua and came to Canada in 1944 to train with the Royal Canadian Air Force. After the war, he switched to the army and graduated from the University of Western Ontario. He fought in Korea with 2nd Battalion Royal Canadian Regiment and retired as a Major 28 years later. Friends may call at the Garden Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes, 3440 Richmond Rd (between Baseline Rd. and Bayshore Dr.), Nepean on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the chapel on Friday at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ottawa Regional Cancer Centre would be appreciated.
