ObituaryRobert 'Bob' F. McQueen, 91, of Fort Myers died on August 5, 2002. He was born in Harvey, IL and resided there until he married Blanche Holbrook of Chicago Heights, IL in 1944. Three years later, now a family of four, soon to be one of five moved to Joliet, IL. In the early 1950's, they made their first of many vacations to Fort Myers. After working 43 years for Illinois Bell Telephone, Bob retired. In pursuit of better golf weather, Blanche and he moved to Horseshoe Bend, AK in 1977. Two years before, they had already begun migrating to Fort Myers for the winters, setting up their trailer in Indian Creek Park. Being 'Snowbirds' lasted until 1989 when they moved permanently to Myerlee. Bob was active throughout his life from a high school athlete to an avid competitive golfer in adult hood. He worked at remodeling all the houses in which they had lived. He traveled far, starting with 'Tramp Steamers' in the 1930's and ending in retirement with world travel. Though very active with the family, he always gave back to communities in which he had lived. He was most proud of his 35 years of volunteer service with The Boy Scouts. His family will keep him close in their hearts as the one who would move mountains for them but would not rob them of their independence. He was an endearing gentleman through out his life. Bob was preceded in death by Blanche in 1996 and is survived by two daughters, one son, two sons-in-law, four granddaughters, one grandson-in-law and one great-granddaughter. Memorial services will be held at The Cypress Lake Methodist Church on Friday, August 9th at 3:00 p.m. Friends are invited directly afterwards to an informal gathering at Bob's residence. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Robert F. McQueen's name to The Boy Scouts of America.
