->Lee, Robert EarlPittsford: Robert Earl Lee, known as Skipper to family and friends, died peacefully on March 31, 2012. He was 96 years old. Born on July 2, 1915, Bob grew up in Irondequoit, New York. He attended college at UCLA from 1933 to 1936 and worked as a movie extra to pay for tuition. He finished his education at Hanover College in Indiana and earned degrees in physics and English. For years, he worked in the electronics field at Delco, which supplied airplane parts during WWII. Bob met Jane Beale during the Second World War, in Rochester in 1942, and they married on Bastille Day in 1945. In their 67 years together since, they have lived a very active life that included travel to dozens of countries.Mr. Lee is remembered for his boundless energy - he played tennis until he was 95 - and is widely known for his quick wit, enthusiastic storytelling, as well as his wide ranging adventures with his wife in their red Austin-Healy. He was good with his hands, as evidenced by the hundreds of pieces of furniture and artwork he designed and crafted over the years, and he was passionate about sailboats, planes, and cars.In 1966, he purchased Rebel, a Morgan 34 sailboat, which he would sail with his family and friends each summer between Annapolis, Maryland, and Camden, Maine, over the next 40 years. On the Atlantic coast he made several ocean rescues, including one in which his all-Rochester crew pulled 10 people aboard Rebel after a press boat (covering a transatlantic yacht race) sank off the coast of Newport, Rhode Island.The Lees raised four children at their home on Green Valley Road in Pittsford where they lived for 50 years. In their later years, the Lees were active residents at Cloverwood senior living where they organized hiking groups and participated in swimming and ballroom dancing.Mr. Lee is survived by his wife Jane, his sister Edna Grinstead, three of his children, Nancy "Troid" Brett and husband Don, of Gainesville, Fla., Betsy Taylor and husband Scott, of Honeoye Falls, and Mary Jane Mangan and husband Tim, of Canton, Mass, nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his son, Robert Lee. Mr. Lee will be remembered at a memorial on Monday, April 2nd, at 1:45pm, at Cloverwood in Pittsford.
