WITTEN--Robert C., died September 11th, 2007, three days short of his 88th birthday. He leaves behind his wife and best friend Greta Walker, children Andrew, Betsy, and Judith, stepson David, their partners Kevin, Dana, and Charlotte, four grandchildren, and a bounty of friends. He was lucky to have married happily twice, and was predeceased by Barbara Yager Witten on September 15th, 1987. Bob was a consummate New Yorker; he moved from NJ in 1937 to attend Columbia College and stayed here taking advantage of everything the City could offer: opera, theater, and summers on Fire Island playing tennis and chasing away the deer. He was also a great traveler, something that grew from his years as an officer in the Navy aboard the USS Greene during WWII. Bob had a sharp mind, great humor, and integrity. He built his company on hard work and his handshake. He was proud that people trusted and relied on him, and so were we. A private ceremony will be held.
