Bob was born in Richmond Hill, NY, to Robert and Ruth White. At a young age the family moved to Ramsey, NJ where he attended school until he transferred to what is now known as Northfield Mount Hermon School in MA. Bob then enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served during the Korean Conflict as a medic aboard aircraft carriers. During this time he married Faith Murray, a long-time friend of his sister, and they enjoyed 62 years together.A lifelong learner, after naval service he continued his education and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Maine, a Master's Degree from Westfield State University and an Ed.D. from the University of Massachusetts. Bob joined the Springfield, MA public school system in 1959 teaching English and General Science before moving to Guidance Counselor positions at the junior and senior high school levels. In 1969 he moved to the University of Massachusetts as an Educational Placement Officer and served in several other student affairs positions before taking early retirement in 1988. Other organizations that he was involved in are too numerous to mention. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. In 1999 Bob and Faith left their home on the hill in North Amherst for flatter land in Sunderland.
