Robert-C. Gilman, born in 1920, spouse of Lucille-Nutting Gilman, son of John and Ethewyn-E, father of Patricia, Okla, Warren and Fla, died on December 9, 2010 at 90 years old. Please consult the obituary here:
ROCHESTER -- Robert Cooper Gilman, 90, died Dec. 9, 2010, in Florida. He was born April 30, 1920, in Laconia to John Sanborn and Ethewyn E. Maud (Garland) Gilman. He was raised in Laconia and he served during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the European Theater (D-Day plus 28). He returned to the U.S. to complete his bachelor's degree in education at Keene State Teachers' College, later earning credits toward a master's degree in advanced education from the University of New Hampshire. He first taught shop in New London, where he met his wife of 62 years, Lucille Nutting Gilman, also a teacher there. He became principal of the North Woodstock schools, then principal of the Ashland schools. He was assistant superintendant of schools in Rochester for 22 years before he retired in 1980. Family members include his wife, Lucille (Nutting) Gilman; his daughter, Patricia Minnis of Norman, Okla.; a son, Warren Gilman of Palm Bay, Fla.; and a grandson. IN HIS LIFE: Family members also include a brother-in-law; a sister-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, John Garland Gilman, and a sister, Barbara Gilman. SERVICES: Calling hours are Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 S. Main St., Rochester. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Laconia, in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Robert C. Gilman Scholarship Fund, c/o Citizens Bank, 1 N. Main St., Rochester 03867.
