NEW SMYRNA BEACH - Robert H. Abell, 73, of Power Line Road, a painter, died Tuesday at home. Mr. Abell, who served as an Army sergeant during the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star, was born in Calvery, Ky. He moved to this area in 1966 from Chicago. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Eagles Club of Port Orange, and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3282. Mr. Abell enjoyed stock car racing, especially Bill Elliott. He also enjoyed the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and University of Florida Gators. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Patricia; a son, Robert, Jr., South Daytona; six daughters, Marie Ellis, New Smyrna Beach, Mary Hayman and Kathy Abell, both of Edgewater, Sharon Ivey and Dena Barrows, both of Port Orange, and Julia Thurmond, Centralia, Ill.; two brothers, Marion, Louisville, Ky., and Joe, Hudson, N.Y.; two sisters, Sue Smith, Lebanon, Ky., and Elsie Reynolds, Louisville; 19 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
