LEOMINSTER -- Dr. Robert Arthur Sasseville, 75, of 800 Pacific Ave. and 70 King’s Highway, Hampton, N.H., and a former 43-year resident of 123 Pine St., Fitchburg, died Sunday, July 27, in his home after an illness. He was born in Leominster on Jan. 11, 1928, the son of Arthur N. and Louise C. (Fontaine) Sasseville and lived in this area all of his life. Dr. Sasseville attended St. Cecilia’s Grammer School in Leominster and was a 1945 graduate of Leominster High School. He received his bachelor’s degree from Fitchburg State College in 1950, his Master of Education Degree from Fitchburg State College in 1956, and his doctorate degree in media technology from the University of Massachusetts in 1977. Dr. Sasseville was a science teacher and library media specialist for the Leominster public schools for 35 years, retiring in 1987. He also was an adult basic education teacher for G.E.D. and Citizenship for the City of Leominster for many years and taught at the MOC Learning Center in Fitchburg for several years. He enlisted as a V-5 and served as a Seaman Second Class in the U.S. Naval Reserve until 1946. He reenlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a Corporal in the 34th Field Artillery Battalion in 1951. Dr. Sasseville was a member of St. Anthony di Padua Parish in Fitchburg, the Cristoforo Colombo Regina Lodge No. 169, Order of the Sons of Italy in America, the Union St. Jean Baptiste, the Retired Mens Club, was a member and former president for the Fitchburg Council on Aging, a member of the Fitchburg Veterans Council, a retired member of the Leominster Education Association, the Massachusetts Teachers Association and the National Education Association. He enjoyed clock repair, and had a great interest and was a collector of World War II aviation photos and literature and enjoyed tennis and golf. Dr. Sasseville leaves his wife of 51 years, Joan A. (Cali) Sasseville; two sons, Dr. Richard A. Sasseville and his wife Dr. Ann Marie Sasseville of Miami, Fla. and Dr. Vito Gregory Sasseville and his wife Tracy of Ipswich; one daughter, Marilou Ingemie and her husband Attorney Ronald B. Ingemie of Fitchburg; one brother, Paul E. Sasseville of Ft. Pierce, Fla.; one sister, Priscilla Bagley of Sarasota, Fla.; two grandchildren, Sarah and Samuel Ingemie, both of Fitchburg; and several nieces and nephews. SASSEVILLE -- On July 27, Dr. Robert Arthur Sasseville, 75, of Leominster. A military funeral will be held Wednesday, July 30, from the Smith-Mallahy-Masciarelli Funeral Home (www.masciarellifamilyfuneralhomes.net), 243 Water St., Fitchburg, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony di Padua Church, 87 Salem St., Fitchburg. Burial will be in St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Fitchburg. Calling hours in the funeral home are Tuesday, July 29 from 5 to 9 p.m. The Sons of Italy will meet to conduct their ritual Tuesday at 5 p.m. Flowers may be sent or memorial contributions made to the VNA Hospice, 120 Thomas St., Worcester, Mass. 01608; or may be left at the funeral home.
