VERNON -- Robert A. Johnson, 77, of Brookline, died at Vernon Green Nursing Home on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003. The son of Charles and Virginia (Cullen) Johnson, he was born in Stamford, Conn., on April 6, 1926. He was a graduate of Stamford High School, class of 1944, and earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Bridgeport. Owner of the Johnson Insurance Center in Stamford, Mr. Johnson served his country in the U.S. Army during the Second World War. He was a former treasurer and 60-year member of the Belltown (Conn.) Fire Department, a volunteer for many years with the Stratton Ski Patrol, and past president of the River Hills Ski Club. A 50-year master mason of Union #5 Lodge of Masons, Mr. Johnson was a distinguished brother of the Pyramid Shriners in Connecticut.He is survived by a son, William C. Johnson of Townshend; a daughter, Barbara A. Hood of Brattleboro; a sister, Elizabeth Bryson of Londonderry; nieces, nephews, and other relatives, and friends. His wife, Anne (Larsen) Johnson, his brother, William H. Johnson, and a nephew, Matthew Bryson, predeceased him.FUNERAL NOTICE -- Robert A. Johnson, 77, of Brookline, died peacefully of prostate cancer at Vernon Green Nursing Home on Sept. 13, 2003.A fan of Rush Limbaugh, Lawrence Welk, and George W. Bush, Bob's hobbies included downhill skiing, tennis, travel, and hiking. He enjoyed humor, political discussions, and his golden retriever, Ginger.Graveside funeral services, including military honors, will be on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the Brookline Cemetery on Hill Road. Calling hours and Masonic rites will be Tuesday, Sept. 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the White Funeral Home on Route 30 in Townshend.A memorial service will be held in Stamford, Conn., on Sunday, Sept. 28. Additional information regarding those arrangements will be published in the Stamford Advocate.In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Grace Cottage Foundation, Vernon Green Nursing Home, or NewBrook Fire Department.Arrangements are under the care of the White Funeral Home, Townshend.
