Obituary of Rita-Cummings Davis


DAVIS Rita Cummings Davis passed away peacefully on September 9, 2004. She was born on September 27, 1913 and has resided in Atlanta, Georgia, Shreveport, Louisiana and Indian Rocks Beach, Florida before moving to Jacksonville, Florida. In her early life she was a model for Rich's Department Stores before becoming a homemaker and being actively involved in the Catholic Church, playing bridge, stock market analysis and golf. She was the Nine Hole City Golf Champion for Shreveport, LA in 1957. Her humor and wit was enjoyed by many relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Lt. Colonel Edward C. Davis, Jr., children Edward C. Davis, III, Rita C. Davis and Grandson, Reid J. Davis. Rita is survived by her son, Jack C. Davis and his wife Catherine, grandchildren Margaret B. Davis, Caroline K. Davis, J. Campbell Davis and his wife Lori, Ashley D. Gray and her husband Will and great grandchild Elizabeth Reid Gray of Birmingham, Alabama as well as numerous nieces and nephews. F amily and friends will celebrate Rita's life with a Memorial Service at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 18, 2004 at The Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 4465 Northside Drive N.W., Atlanta, GA 30322. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to All Saints Catholic Nursing Home or The North Florida Chapter of Muscular Dystrophy Association.
