Mr. Richard William "Dick" Sanborn 77, of Middleton, beloved husband of Barbara (Burgess) Sanborn died March 28, 2012, following a brief illness at his home surrounded by his family. Born in Salem, he was the son of Edith (Hansen) Sanborn and the late Richard H. Sanborn. He was a lifelong resident of the Town of Middleton. Mr. Sanborn served his country during the Korean War as a member of the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Coates Destroyer Escort, (DE-685). While in the service he traveled all over the world defending the principles of the United States of America. Richard began his professional career associated with the former Anderson and Bursaw Oil Companies. He ventured out on his own as the proprietor of Sanborn & Sons Inc., Oil Burner Service Technicians. He helped many families on a cold winters night, return to warmth. Active in civic associations, Richard was a member of Amity Lodge A.F. & A.M. of Danvers, he was the past Commander of the American Legion Post 227 in Middleton. He was a long time member of the Danvers Fish and Game Club. A dear and dedicated friend and companion, Dicks passions were many and included spending time at his camp in Kingman, Maine where he was known as the "Bean Man", cooking Sunday meals for his family, making apple sauce, hunting, but above all else his family was paramount. In addition to his loving wife of 54 years and his mother, Dick is survived by his children, John J. Sanborn and his wife Kathy of East Wakefield, N.H., Lisa E. Sanborn of Lighthouse Point, Fl, Lori Sanborn of Derry N.H., Amy L. Williams and her husband Ronald of Ipswich, his grandchildren, Eric, Kaila and Seth Sanborn, Robert, Richard & Michael Montgomery and Haley, Amanda, Casey and Maya Williams, his great grandchild, Kasey Sanborn, his sisters, Claire Jones of North Reading, Carol DUrso of Methuen, Virginia Hull of St. Augustine, Fl, his brother Thomas Sanborn of Kingston, N.H. and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Edith Seavey, Betty Burbine, Barbara Churchill, William Sanborn IIIand Robert Sanborn. ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral service will be held in the Middleton Congregational Church, Maple St., Middleton, Tuesday at 11 A.M. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in Oakdale Cemetery, Middleton. Visiting hours in the Peteson-ODonnell Funeral Home 167 Maple St., (Rte 62) Danvers, Monday from 4 to 8 P.M.
