Richard P. Manning 1923 - 2012 SPRINGFIELD - Richard P. Manning, 88, of Springfield died Monday, June 11, 2012 at Chapin Center. Richard was born in Springfield, a son of the late Patrick and Nora (Ashe) Manning and was a lifelong Springfield resident. He was a 30 year employee for the City of Springfield Public Building Dept., retiring in 1960 as Custodial Supervisor. He gave the first Irish Flag ever to be flown over the City of Springfield in 1969. Richard was awarded membership #6 in the Charity Committee of 99 Stigmatine Fathers Annual Scholarship Fund Committee in 1963. He was a communicant of the former Our Lady of Hope Church, and was a member of the John Boyle O'Reilly Club and the Sons of Erin. Richard will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him including his brother, Daniel J. Manning of Jupiter, FL, his sister Margaret M. Breault and her husband August of South Hadley. He was the uncle of Pamela Dumais of West Yarmouth, Susan Napolatono of South Hadley, and great uncle to Dan and Denise Dumais, and Christopher Napolatono. Richard's proudest moments were having his father see an Irish Flag fly over Springfield while he was a city employee, seeing a man on the Moon, and John Fitzgerald Kennedy elected President. Visiting Hours are Saturday, June 16, 2012 from 8am-9:00am at Sampson Funeral Home, 710 Liberty St, Springfield followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10am in Mary, Mother of Hope Church, 840 Page Blvd, Springfield. Burial is private for the family.
