LAKE WALES -- Mr. Richard Moore of Lake Wales was an airline pilot for more than 20 years and built experimental airplanes. Mr. Moore died of cancer Friday (Feb. 20, 2004) at his home. He was 65. Born March 20, 1938, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he came to Lake Wales from Miami 21 years ago. Mr. Moore's wife, Anne, said her husband was a pilot for Eastern Airlines for 29 years. During that time, he designed and built his own plane, the Sea Wind. The Sea Wind, made of fiberglass, was an experimental design for sea planes. An avid golfer and traveler, Mr. Moore's destinations were often golf courses, his wife said, including Pebble Beach in California. "He liked to go to new places," she said. He was a member of the Airlines Pilot Association and the Moose Lodge. In addition to his wife, Anne Moore, Mr. Moore is survived by his daughters, Charity Romine, Atlanta, Nikki Rosenvald, Lake Wales; brothers, Allan Moore, Brick, N.J., Spencer Moore, Mesa, Ariz.; sister, Margo Lampell, San Francisco; two grandchildren. Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Lake Wales. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Central Florida Cancer Center, Lake Wales office.
