Richard Lee Jones, age 77, of Ozark, passed away Thursday, August 31, 2006. He was born August 18, 1929, in Rogersville, the son of Fred and Sara (McGinnis) Jones. On January 27, 1951, he married Maggie Louise Melton, who preceded him in death on April 21, 2003. Richard served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He then worked as a machinist at Ash Grove Lime for more than 22 years. In the late 1960s, he opened a race track at his home. In 1975 he opened a garage and welding shop. Richard attended Victory Baptist Church in Ozark. Survivors include: five children, Richard Dwayne Jones and wife, Barbara, Ozark, Marian Elaine Sistrunk and husband, Phillip, Dewayne, Philadelphia, Mississippi, Lynda Jean Jones, Springfield, Victor Jones and wife, Karen, Nixa, and Velda Harriss and husband, Jimmy, Ozark; a brother, Bill Jones and wife, Joann, Springfield; a sister-in-law, Ruthine Jones, Springfield; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; an "adopted daughter", Rosie Melton; and a good friend, Roger Hutchison. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 3, in Adams Funeral Home, Ozark, with Reverend Jimmy Harriss officiating. Burial will follow in Prospect Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home.
