Richard Kenneth Libby, 82 years of age, a lifelong resident of Braintree, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 29, 2011 at his home surrounded by family members. He was born in Boston. He was a graduate of Braintree High School Class of 1946. He subsequently graduated from Bentley College. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. Richard was the retired owner and operator of Ports Oil Service in Braintree. A very active Churchman he was a Deacon and Elder of The First Baptist Church of Braintree. He was a Past Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Church and former member of the Fortnighters of the Church. He was a Board Member of the Braintree Community Food Pantry. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and repairing cars and other mechanical items. He was devoted to his family and especially liked to spend time with his grandchildren. He was the beloved husband of Phyllis J. (Clark) Libby to whom he had been married for sixty years. He was the devoted father of Nancy L. Sass and her husband Alan Sass of Braintree and Leslie L. Kinniburgh and her husband David Kinniburgh of Abington. He was the loving grandfather of Jeffrey, Rachel, Mikayla, Jason and Leah. He was the brother of Norma Yoerger of Connecticut and Thelma Ewing of Braintree. He was the brother of the late Ralph Libby. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours were held at the Mortimer N. Peck | Russell Peck Funeral Home, 516 Washington St., Braintree on Sunday, May 1, 2011 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. A funeral service was held at The First Baptist Church of Braintree on Monday, May 2, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. The Reverend Robert Killeffer, pastor of the Church officiated.
