ALBANY Richard John Janulis III, 41, departed this earth far too soon on October 23, 2005 in the place that he loved, the home he shared with his loving companion and partner of 14 years, James Salengo. Rich was born and raised in Amsterdam, N.Y. After graduating from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh with a bachelor of science degree, he began a 19 year career at the NYS Department of Health, initially as a lab technician. Ironically, Rich worked in the basement of the tallest building in Albany. At the time of his passing, he was a network engineer in the department's AIDS Institute. Rich loved collecting, especially Franciscan Appleware. He and Jim also loved traveling and entertaining in their home. Among their friends and associates, they wish to give special recognition to Joe Santelli and John Duvall, their dearest friends. In addition to Jim and their loving cat, K.C., Rich leaves behind his wonderful mother, Virginia (Staskunas) Janulis; his brothers, David Janulis and Donald Grandchamp; his sister, Jacqueline (Janulis) and her husband Thomas Murray; his brother, Mark Jacob and his wife India; and his sister, Lynda (Jacob) and her husband Allen Pileckas. Rich is also survived by his loving in-laws, Teresa, Joseph and Melissa Salengo; as well as many dear nieces and nephews. Rich was predeceased by his father, Richard John Janulis Jr.; his grandparents, James and Julia Staskunas; his nephew and godson, A.J. Pileckas and Oliver and Gretchen. Jim would like to thank his friends and neighbors for all their help at this very difficult time. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial Mass Thursday at 9:00 a.m. at St. Vincent De Paul Church, Albany where they can join in celebrating the life of a wonderful man.
