McMILLAN, Richard (Dick) James, Lieut. Col. CD (Retired) - Suddenly at the Brantford General Hospital on Thursday, August 28, 2008, in his 81st year, Richard (Dick) James McMillan, beloved husband of Audrey Isabel (nee Northover), together for 63 years; cherished father of Greg (Deyanira), of Brantford, Duncan (Shirley) of Calgary, and Scott of Brantford. Dear brother of John (Joan) of Toronto and adoring grandfather to David (Nancy) of San Antonio, Texas, and Alaina of Brantford. Will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews. Dick was a principal with the Brant City School Board (now Grand Erie Board of Education) for 20 years and served as the Commanding Officer of the 56th Field Regiment R.C.A from 1964 to 1968, then again as Honorary Lieutenant Colonel from 1989 to 1993. A graduate of Brantford Collegiate Institute and the University of Western Ontario (B.A), he was affiliated with the YMCA as President of the Hi-Y and Phalanx clubs. A dedicated family man, he was the inspirational leader and foundation for all. Intensely proud of his Scottish heritage, he was the family genealogist, an avid sportsman - particularly with golf and curling - a passionate gardener and bird watcher, and staunch aficionado of crosswords and the weather. Predeceased by father, James, and mother, Kathleen, he will be immeasurably missed by all who knew him well. The family would like to thank the medical staff at the Brantford General Hospital for its caring and considerate attention. Friends will be received at the McCLEISTER FUNERAL HOME 495 Park Road North, Brantford, on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., with a memorial service and reception to follow.
