Richard Earl Davis, 79, of 1398 Hunts Bridge Road, Fountain Inn, husband of Evelyn Sides Davis, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, December 20, 2006. Born in Newberry, S.C., November 21, 1927, he was a son of the late Daniel Webster and Viola Ruff Davis. He was a graduate of the FBI Academy, and was formerly police chief of Seneca. Richard retired from the Greenville City Police Department as a captain after thirty-eight and one-half years with the department. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fountain Inn, and was a member of the Hejaz Temple of the Shrine. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving 1945 to 1947. Surviving are his wife, Evelyn Sides Davis of the home; a daughter, Susan Grant, and her husband, Rick, of Fountain Inn; three grandsons, Mike, Dan and Blake; and a sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Raeford Nichols of Orangeburg, S.C.; and many loving nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends at The Mackey Mortuary, Century Drive, Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be Saturday, December 23, 2006, at 1:30 p.m., at the mortuary, with the Rev. Michael Bearden officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
