SMITH The Rev. Dr. Terry A. Smith, died on Friday, August 27, 2004, at Maine Medical Center as a result of a tragic accident. He was born on September 19, 1943, in Portland, Maine. He was a graduate of Cape Elizabeth High School, class of 1961, Yale University, Gordon Divinity School, and Andover Newtown Seminary. He served as senior pastor of the Covenant Church of Easton from 1974 to 1986, leading the church through a merger with Westminster Presbyterian Church and a relocation from Bridgeport to its present location in Easton. Over his 40 years of ministry, he also served churches in East Lansing, Mich., Wakefield, Mass., Batavia, Ill., and Holyoke, Mass. At the present, he was serving as pastor of Old South Congregational Church in Hallowell, Maine. In addition to his professional achievements, he also pursued interests in music, painting and writing. He built and played several musical instruments, and sang both as a soloist and with the Covenant Ministers' Chorus. Recently, he and his son, Michael, had created a special CD together. His paintings have won several awards, and many of them hang in the homes of friends. He had also just published a novel called "The Last Bridge". He is survived by his wife, Christina; his son, Michael; his daughter, Heidi Arsenault and her husband, David; his father, Clyde Smith; two sisters, Marilee Smith and Bonnie Clinard and her husband, David; and several nieces and nephews. There will be a memorial service at Old South Congregation Church, 135 Second Street, Hallowell, Maine, at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 1. A reception will follow the service in the parish hall.
