Obituary of Rev. -John Erickson


PEQUANNOCK — Services will be held for the Rev. John "Dave" David Erickson, 82, of the Pompton Plains section of this community, who died on Sunday, February 10, 2013. The Rev. Erickson grew up in Wood-Ridge and lived in Totowa before moving to Pompton Plains in 2005. He was ordained at Central Presbyterian Church, Paterson, in 1954 and served there until 1975. Also, he was chair of the Paterson Task Force in the War on Poverty. He worked with Children's Haven as well. In 1975, he became the pastor of the Arlington Avenue Presbyterian Church and later the Central Brick Presbyterian Church, both in East Orange. He also served as interim pastor of the Church of Our Saviour, Newark, before retiring in 1995. Subsequently, he was a parish associate at the Presbyterian Church on the Green, Bloomfield. Arrangements are by the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home, Pompton Plains. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Care Alternatives Hospice, 70 Jackson Drive, Suite 200, Cranford, NJ 07016 or to the Resident Care Fund at Cedar Crest, Cedar Crest Drive, Pompton Plains, NJ 07444. The Rev. Erickson is survived by his wife, the former Lorraine Pettersen; his daughter, Nancy Ferguson; his son, Paul; his brothers, Ken and Richard; and four grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Elmer and Edith.
