JACKSON - Rev. J. Robert Died on July 24, 2013. He was born in Lockport, NY on December 31, 1913 to William and Mary Welch Jackson. Father Jackson attended DeVeaux Military Academy, the University of Virginia and the DeLancey Divinity School. He and Louise E. (Betty) Wheeler were married July 18, 1936 in Grace Episcopal Church, Lockport. Betty died on August 18, 2005. Father Jackson was connected with the Harrison Division of General Motors for twenty-five years before resigning his post as Service Manager to be ordained to the Episcopal priesthood on April 18, 1964. He was ordained a deacon in the Episcopal Church ten years earlier during which time he assisted in parishes in Holley, Newfane and Wilson. After ordination to the priesthood, Father Jackson became rector of St. Mary's parish in Salamanca, NY and while there, was dean of the Cattaraugus Deanery of the Diocese of Western New York. He was later rector of St. Clement's parish in Buffalo and dean of the Eastern Erie Deanery. At the time of his retirement he was rector of St. Peter's parish in Westfield, NY. Father Jackson served on the Diocesan Council and several diocesan commissions was director of the Senior High Youth Conference for three years. He was a member of the Cattaraugus County Housing Authority, the boards of directors of the Salvation Army and American Red Cross in Salamanca and the past president of the Rotary Club. In Lockport, he was a member of the board of directors of Meals on Wheels and volunteered as Chaplain at the Lockport Memorial Hospital. After his retirement, Father Jackson did extensive interim and supply work in the Diocese of Western New York. Father of John (Susan) Jackson of Kemore, NY and the late William Jackson. Father in law of Mildred Jackson of Irmo, South Carolina. Also survived by seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Father Jackson was predeceased by four brothers; William, Arthur, George Dewey and Charles Jackson. There will be a memorial service at the convenience of the family.
