The Rev. Frederick E. Cox, 66, Richmond, died Monday, May 26, 2008, at Seton Specialty Hospital in Indianapolis.Fred was a 1960 graduate of Seymour Senior High School and earned a bachelor of music education degree from Indiana University in 1965, master of music degree from Michigan State in 1971 and master of divinity degree from United Theological Seminary of Dayton in 1981. He was a teacher and band director for Jasper School Corp. from 1965-1967, Grand Rapids Michigan School Corp. from 1967-1969 and Jac-Cen-Del School Corp. from 1973-1978. He served the following churches: 1978-1981, Lewisville/Dublin United Methodist Church; 1981-1986, associate minister of Central United Methodist Church, Richmond; 1986-1990, associate minister of First United Methodist Church, New Castle; 1990-2000, Edwards Memorial United Methodist Church, Liberty; and 2000-2003, First United Methodist Church, Hagerstown. He was an elder of the South Indiana Conference of the United Methodist Church, 33rd Degree Mason of Line Lodge of Jasper, Indianapolis Valley of Scottish Rite, Study Buddy at Charles Elementary School and volunteer at Reid Hospital. He attended Central United Methodist Church and was a member of the Chancel Choir and Wesley Ringers. He was a big sports fan and loved spending time with his grandchildren.Born April 14, 1942, in Seymour, he was the son of Aaron E. and Olive C. Becker Cox, both of whom preceded him in death.Survivors include his wife, Sandra L. Wernimont Cox, to whom he was married June 25, 1966; sons, Philip (Lisa) Cox and Matthew (Nikki) Cox, both of Liberty, and Mark (Kenyatta) Cox, Richmond; five grandchildren, Emma and Sara Cox and Gabriel and Grant Cox, all of Liberty, and Noa Cox, Richmond; sister, Maureen (Steve) Burns, Greensboro, N.C.; niece; nephew; cousins; and many friends.The Rev. Phil Dorrell, the Rev. Scott Bell and the Rev. Eldon Harzman will conduct funeral services at 1 p.m. Thursday at Central United Methodist Church, Richmond. Burial will take place at Earlham Cemetery.Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church. A Masonic memorial service will be conducted at 8 p.m.Memorial contributions may be given to Central United Methodist Church, 1425 E.
