Raymond Miller, born in 1918, spouse of Eleanor Rose, son of Carroll and Dorothy, father of Donald R and Constance A, died on February 27, 2007 at 88 years old.
WILMINGTON -- Raymond C. Miller, 88, a resident of Halifax, died Tuesday morning, Feb. 27, 2007. at the Vermont Veteran's Home in Bennington, surrounded by his family.Mr. Miller was born in Greenfield, Mass., on Sept. 24, 1918, the son of Carroll and Dorothy (Clapp) Miller. He received his education in Northfield schools, graduating from Northfield Mount Hermon School, class of 1939.He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, achieving the rank of sergeant. After serving his country, he worked for the Greenfield Tap and Die Co. He and his family then moved to Bangor, Maine, where he attended Bangor Theological Seminary where he was ordained a minister.Mr. Miller served his ministry in churches in Carmel, Maine, Colrain, Mass., and finally Jacksonville Congregational Church, which is now the Jacksonville Community Church, where he was the pastor.During his time as a minister, he also worked at G.S. Precision where he started plant maintenance and was also a civil engineer. He was the former commander of the American Legion in Northfield and a member of the Carl Dessaint VFW Post 1034 in Brattleboro.He designed and built water wheels, had his own trout farm, loved fishing and cherished times spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.Mr. Miller is survived by his sons, Donald R. Miller and his wife Helen in Hinsdale, N.H., and Thomas G. Miller and his wife Sheila of Indiana, his daughter, Constance A. Miller of Halifax; two sisters, Carolyn Spencer and Elizabeth Barfit, both of Northfield; his grandchildren, Julie Winchester, Elizabeth Clouatre, Cheryl Ruzzo and Raymond Miller; and 12 great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Eleanor Rose whom he married in Sunderland, Mass., on Jan. 5, 1947. They were married 58 years.Mrs. Miller died on March 13, 2006. He was also preceded in death by his grandson, Thomas Zachary Miller, in November, 2005.Funeral services for Mr. Miller will be held on Friday morning at 10:30 a.m. at the West Halifax Bible Church. Pastor Mark Monroe will conduct the service.Visiting hours will be Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Covey & Allen Funeral Home, 44 East Main St., Wilmington, when the family will be in attendance.Interment with military honors will be in the family lot in North Cemetery in Sunderland.
