Obituary of Ray Johnson


Ray Johnson of Mt. Ivy-Pomona, NY, died on September 3, 2003 in Woodland CA following a prolonged illness. He worked as a machinist for Lederle Laboratories in Pearl River, NY for 43 years, and retired in 1980. Mr. Johnson was born February 8, 1915 in Orangeburg, NY to George and Catherine Johnson. He was educated in Orangeburg, NY and graduated from Tappan Zee High School. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army, attaining the rank to Staff Sergeant. During the past forty-three years, he made his home in Mt. Ivy, NY, previously having lived in Orangeburg, NY until 1960. He was an avid amateur radio operator (W2EZU) and a member of the local amateur radio club (W2DMC). Many knew Ray Johnson as a loyal bowler for Lederle's League and the Haverstraw Mixed League. He is survived by his sister, Marjorie Ostrom, his daughter, Barbara Brisco, three grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his wife Betty, mother, father, sister Ida, and brothers Chester, William, Albert, Clarence and Whitney. A memorial service will be held, 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 22, 2003 at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home Inc., 100 Franklin Avenue, Pearl River.
