Mr. Ralph Allen "Daddy Ralph" Owens - PEMBROKE - Mr. Ralph Allen "Daddy Ralph" Owens, age 85, died Saturday morning April 11, 2009 after an extended illness. Mr. Owens was retired from the building supply industry where he worked many years with Shuman Supply Company and later with Espy Lumber Company. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served with the 89th Airdrome Squadron. Mr. Owens was stationed in India and flew missions over both China and Burma. He was a member of American Legion Post 164, a charter member of the Pembroke Lions Club, a life-long member of Pembroke United Methodist Church, an avid University of Georgia Football fan, loved NASCAR and traveling with his wife. Mr. Owens is preceded in death by his parents John Gordon Owens and Willie Mae Owens Morgan and stepfather Ryles Morgan, a sister Shirley Thompson and brother Reginald Owens. Survivors include his wife of 54 years Mrs. Jewel Cowart Owens of Pembroke, son and daughter-in-law Don and Jenny Owens of Bluffton, SC and daughter and son-in-law Leigh Anne and Fred Maiden of Bluffton, SC, 2 sisters Evelyn Westbury of Spartanburg, SC and Faye Waters of Pembroke, 3 grandchildren Corey Cannon, Jordan and Kelley Owens and 2 great grandchildren Braxton Dunn and Rowyn Cannon. Visitation will be 6-8:30 P.M. Monday evening at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 2 P.M. Tuesday in the chapel of Flanders Morrison Funeral Home with Rev. Edwin Smith and Rev. Dan Bryant officiating. Interment will follow in Northside Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Pembroke United Methodist Church or to the charity of your choice.
