Rachel G. "Patsy" Smith, 79, Punta Gorda, died July 21, 2006. She was born April 9, 1927, in Lone Oak, Texas, and came to the area five years ago from Grand Junction, Colo. She had worked as a contract specialist for the Navy in Alameda, Calif., retiring in 1982. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Grand Junction and enjoyed volunteering with the Veterans of Foreign Wars bingo games. Survivors include a sister, Mildred "Did" Engelhardt of Woodburn, Ore.; two granddaughters; four great-grandchildren; a friend, Alison Eliason of Sacramento, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at Kays-Ponger Funeral Home, Punta Gorda Chapel, followed by services at noon. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Sarasota/Tampa, 1719 W. Kennedy Blvd., Tampa, FL 33606; or to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
