Mrs. Rachel (Darracott) Smith, age 76, of Coles Creek Drive, Buford passed away Thursday, July 24, 2008, at her residence following an extended illness. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2008, in the chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with burial to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Jim Ferguson, the Rev. Ferrell Presley and the Rev. Jimmy Hill will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2008, at the funeral home. Mrs. Smith was born in Forsyth County to the late Thomas A. Darracott and Dollie O. (Byers) Darracott. She moved to Florida in 1967 and worked for GTE and retired following 20 years of service. In 1993, she returned to Buford where she was a member of the Brandon Baptist Church in Florida but attended Ivy Creek Baptist Church in Buford. She was a doting grandmother to her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roger L. Smith; and a brother-in-law, Charles England. Mrs. Smith is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Jay Floyd, Buford; grandchildren, Tina Baker, Jackie Andrus and Thomas Floyd; and great-grandchildren, Ben Knox, Tommy and Roger Chapparo, Cody and Kyle Sorrows and Savannah Baker.
