Ruth May Miller, age 73, a 15 year resident of the Evans, WA area, passed away on January 3, 2011, at her home. She was born on May 19, 1937 in Johnstown, NY, the daughter of Walter and Ruth (Nellis) Martin. Ruth was raised and attended school in Johnstown, NY, where she graduated from Johnstown High School. She then attended Fulton-Montgomery Community College and received her associate's degree. Ruth worked in the news staff for the Leader-Herald, as a correspondent for the Schenectady Union Star, and as the bureau chief for The Schenectady Gazette. Ruth continued her education while working and earned her bachelor's degree in political philosophy from Empire State College. She moved with her companion and friend, Scott Kindle, to Snohomish, WA in 1978. She began working for McKesson, a pharmaceutical distribution company, and then as an office assistant through a human resource company. Ruth was assigned to work at the Boeing Aircraft Company and was soon offered a full time position working her way up to manager in the flight deck configuration department. She assisted in the development and production of the Boeing 757, 767, and 747 series 400. She completed her education with a master's of business administration from City College in Bellevue, WA. Ruth retired in 1992 and encouraged Scott to move to northeastern Washington state with her. They found the ideal location near Evans. Ruth and Scott invested an entire year of "sweat equity" traveling every weekend to the property from Snohomish, WA, and created their new home. They moved into their Evans home on May 19, 1995 (Ruth's birthday), and have enjoyed it for the past 15 years. Ruth and Scott were married on February 23, 2002 in Las Vegas, NV, in affirmation of their 25 year friendship. Ruth spent countless hours hand sculpting and developing her yard, driveway, tree placement, earth landmarks, and reflection pond. She approached all of life with great attention to detail and expressive creativity. Her gift of creativity was expressed in her paintings, crafts, needlework, hardanger embroidery, and making of clothing and furniture. She loved to sing, pick at her banjo or spoons and enjoy. Ruth was resourceful and could stretch a dollar from inches to yards with her gardening, canning, freezing of foods, investing, saving and spending (or lack thereof). What she set her mind to... she accomplished, which included her many home construction and remodeling projects. Ruth also enjoyed traveling and had the opportunity to visit many remarkable destinations. She was preceded in death by her brother, Walter Martin, and her parents. Ruth is survived by her longtime friend and husband, Donald "Scott" Kindle, at their home; son, Ronald Miller and his wife, Lisa of Newport, NH; stepson, Eric Kindle and his wife, Christie of Pine Bush, NY; stepdaughter, Christine Rivera of Bloomingburg, NY; grandchildren, Jonathan, Nicholas, Anthony and Marissa; sister, Sharre Martin of Minden, NV; sisters-in-law, Louise Martin of Fairview, PA, Lucille Hessling of Montour Falls, NY, Sharon Post of Burdett, NY; nieces and nephews, Jennifer and Amber Satterfield, Walter and Vicki Martin.
