Ruth Fisher Smith, 86, of Bean Road, passed away on Sunday, May, 8, 2011. Born June 3, 1924 in Mechanicville, NY, she was the daughter of the late prominent attorney Robert W. Fisher and artist Laurena (Skinner) Fisher. Mrs. Smith was a graduate of Mechanicville High School. On August 25, 1943 Ruth married Bruce More Smith at 614 Park Place in Mechanicville, the home of Ruth's mother and all the family was in attendance. The couple shared over 67 loving years that included the blessing of three children. Mrs. Smith was an active member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Schenectady, NY, where she participated in many activities, including choir and teaching Sunday school. After she moved north, she then attended Bay Road Presbyterian Church in Lake George, NY. A very artistic woman who enjoyed oil painting and sculpting with clay, Mrs. Smith enjoyed nurturing the artistic talents of her children and grandchildren. She was a spiritual, loving, and giving person who will be missed deeply by her beloved family. Besides her parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, Jonathan Corwin and Virginia (Illing) Fisher of Riverdale, MD. She is survived by her husband of 67 years; her children, Candyce Smith Russell of Manhattan, KS, Douglas Bruce Smith and his wife, Linda, of Kattskill Bay, NY, and Barbara Smith Brugger and her husband, John, of Barre, VT; six grandchildren, Benjamin Douglas Smith of Baldwinsville, NY, Lucas Brody Smith, and his wife, Katie, of Ft. Edward, NY, Lindsay Ann Brugger of Washington, D.C., Spencer Christian Brugger of Boulder, CO, Clifton Robert Harriman, his wife, Dasha, and children, Alexander and Alena, of Niskayuna, NY, and Melissa Lynn Rowe, and her husband, John, of Saratoga Springs, NY. At the family's request there will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 12, 2011, at the Harrisena Comunity Church, 1616 Ridge Road, Queensbury, NY 12804, with Rev. LaMont D. Robinson, officiating. Private burial will be in Pine View Cemetery, Quaker Road, Queensbury, NY 12804. The family wishes to say a special "Thank You" to the Stanton Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center for the excellent care of our Mom over the past three years, with a "special thank you" going out to the South Wing Staff.
