HAYES, Rosemary Najar, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2006 in Roanoke, Virginia. She was prede-ceased by her husband Fran-cis (Frank) Xavier Hayes, her parents, George and Marie Na-jar, and her sister, Margaret Hermann. Mother of Brigid Hayes (Ed Buller), Ottawa, On-tario; Francis (Frank) Xavier Hayes, Jr. (Connie), Roanoke, Virginia; Kathleen Mary John-son (David), Lake St. Louis, Mis-souri; and John Thomas Hayes (Nell), Halifax, Massachusetts. Grandmother of Eddy (Liezel), Alexis, and Matthew Buller; Les-lie Dawn Parker (Randy), Fran-cis Xavier Hayes, III (Becky), Zachary Hayes, and Brad Cox; Marc Johnson (Amber); Jack and Colin Dwyer and Veronica Rose Hayes. Great Grand-mother of Emma Jade Parker, Francis Xavier Hayes, IV, Na-than, Kaleb, and Konnor John-son. She will be missed by her sisters-in-law, her many nieces and nephews, and her friends and colleagues. Rosemary was born in Cliffside Park, New Jersey. She spent her life as a nurse and an edu-cator, earning an RN (1950), BS Sociology (1971), BSc Nursing (1976) and MEd Adult Educa-tion (1976) while raising four children. The family lived in Jersey City and Teaneck, New Jersey; Montgomery, Alabam-a; Brantford, Ontario; Harrison-burg, Virginia; in 1977, Rose-mary and Frank settled in Char-lottesville Virginia. There Rose-mary was an active and en-gaged volunteer especially at St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church, Jefferson Area Board on Aging (JABA), and Northwestern Virginia Health Systems Agency (Tho-mas Jefferson Council). Rosemary was on the founding committee of the Thomas Jef-ferson Health Care Center (Adult Day Care) and, with her husband Frank, the Hospice of the Piedmont. Rosemary loved to travel, visiting Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, and through-out the United States and Canada. A celebration of her life will be held at St. Thomas the Aquinas Roman Catholic Church, 401 Alderman Rd, Charlottesville, on Saturday, November 11, 2006 at 11:00 followed by a re-ception. The family would like to thank the staff of Martha Jefferson Hospital, Our Lady of the Val-ley, and Roanoke Memorial Hospital for their care of our mother over the past few weeks. A special thank you to Dr. John Lanham for his friend-ship and support of Rosemary. In lieu of flowers, Rosemary would appreciate donations be made to any of the organiz-ations she supported in Char-lottesville.
