REV. DR. DIANE LYNNE CLARK (nee ELDER) At Hospice Wellington in Guelph on September 28, 2014 following a brief struggle with cancer. Beloved wife and best friend of E. Brian Clark. Dear mother of Elissa Newby-Clark (Ian) of Guelph, Erinn Clark (Steve Steers) of Toronto and Colin Clark (Darcie) of Toronto. Cherished grandmother of Callum, Alasdair, Saya, Gemma and Norah. Sadly missed by her brothers David (Pat Solomon) of Ottawa, Bruce (Kathy) of Toronto, Alan (Richard Carrier) of Ottawa; her sister Jo-Anne Elder (Carlos Gomes) of Fredericton, NB and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her infant son Joel (1974). Diane touched the lives of many with her ministry, spiritual direction and friendship. After graduating from McMaster University, Diane taught English and Latin at Waterloo-Oxford District Secondary School in Baden, Ontario. She left teaching to raise her family when Elissa was born. She later went to Waterloo Lutheran Seminary and Knox College and was ordained in the Presbyterian Church. Diane served for six years at Elmvale and Knox Flos Presbyterian Churches. She began her Doctor of Ministry at St. Stephen's College, Edmonton, while in Elmvale. In 1994, Diane transferred her credentials to the United Church of Canada where she served Chalmers and Three Willows United Churches in Guelph. While at Chalmers, she helped the congregation establish the Fair Share Food Shelf, which later became Chalmers Community Services Centre. She also taught courses in pastoral theology at the Atlantic School of Theology in Halifax. After retiring, she maintained a spiritual direction practice in Guelph. Diane loved knitting, gardening, sailing, her Shelties and, above all, her children and grandchildren. Friends may call at the GILCHRIST CHAPEL - McIntyre & Wilkie Funeral Home, 1 Delhi Street, Guelph, on Thursday, October 2nd from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Memorial service will be held at Harcourt Memorial United Church, 87 Dean Avenue, Guelph, on Friday, October 3rd at 11 a.m. Interment of cremated remains at Maitlandbank Cemetery, Seaforth. Memorial contributions to Chalmers Community Services Centre or Hospice Wellington would be appreciated. We invite you to leave your condolences and donations online at www.gilchristchapel.com
