Obituary of R. -Frances Brennan

BRENNAN R. Frances Brennan, age 98, on Thursday, June 7, 2007 in Sarasota, Fla. Born in Bridgeport on November 20, 1908, was the daughter of the late Ruby M. (Goodrich) Brennan and Francis J. Brennan of Fairfield. She was a graduate of the Bridgeport School system and the University of Alabama. She was an assistant to the tax assessor for the City of Bridgeport in 1928. Afterwards, Frances moved to Washington D.C. and was appointed secretary of Chief of Tariffs. Frances was ordered to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where she was promoted to administrative assistant to the Inter-American Affairs. This assignment was successful in converting the Brazilian government from leaning toward Germany, Italy and Japan. After World War II, Frances moved back to San Diego, Calif. where she worked in the tax assessor's office, taught adult education business classes at night and set up the retirement pension fund for the San Diego County. Frances also owned and operated two state licensed residential care centers. Frances retired and traveled extensively. Frances is survived by her son, Professor James McLachlan of Chapel Hill, N.C.; her brother, Frank Brennan of Shelton; and 46 grand and great-grand-nieces and nephews. Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at 10 a.m. in St. Michael's Cemetery, Stratford.
