PETERS, Phyllis HuntDied on Friday evening, October 10, 2008 at her home in Donelson. She was the widow of the late Charles L. Peters. Originally from Richmond Indiana, Mrs. Peters and her family moved to Donelson in 1958 when Mr. Peters was transferred by his employer, Avco Corp., from its Richmond facility to Nashville. She was 84. Mrs. Peters returned to college in midlife, getting her BA and teaching certificate from Peabody College for Teachers, and then teaching in various school systems until her retirement in the early 1980s. She was an avid reader and a self-taught scholar, particularly in the areas of English history and literature, and the Spanish language. A soft-spoken, self-effacing woman, she was known to family and friends for her devotion to the wild creatures and birds that made their home in her yard, and sought to create an environment in which they could thrive. Mrs. Peters was raised in the Quaker tradition, and its pacifist philosophy deeply influenced her personal views. For many years, she has belonged to Andrew Price Memorial Methodist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Miller, of Hendersonville; a son, John Peters, of Wayland Massachusetts; a granddaughter, Natasha Miller, of Hendersonville, and her sister, Marilyn Clark, of Kaufman Texas.
