Phillip M. Carter, 60, died June 19, 2007, at Flagler Hospital. He was born Feb. 29, 1947, in Miami.He is survived by his wife Barbara; his brother; sister-in-law; and two nieces. He was predeceased by his parents, Carl and Margie Carter of Jacksonville, Fla.Phillip graduated from high school at Admiral Farragut Academy in St. Petersburg, Fla. His love of basketball earned him a scholarship to the University of South Florida where he graduated with a business degree. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard.Phillip lived in St. Augustine for more than 30 years and was well known to many local residents. He was an avid fisherman and spent his entire career in the marine industry. He volunteered at the YMCA as a youth basketball coach and was always ready to lend a helping hand.Phillip battled his disease as he lived life, with grace and dignity, never complaining and never giving up. Phillip's greatest joys in life came from his family and friends. He had a heart as wide as his smile and everyone Phillip knew held a special place in it. Phillip was a great man and a gift to all who knew him.A memorial service will be held at Craig Funeral Home on Saturday, June 30, 2007 at 11 a.m. Reception to follow.
