Obituary of Philip H. Macallister


MacALLISTERPhilip H. MacAllister, 73, of Hanover, died Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at the Brockton Veterans Hospital after an illness of several months. Son of the late Helen Edith (Chase) Banica and Antonio Banica and the late Philip B. MacAllister. Philip was born in Boston, August 20, 1933. He moved to Hanover where he lived for 48 years. Philip retired from Burtman Ironworks of Readville after 42 years where he was a member of Shopmen's Local 501. He serviced in the Navy from 1951 to 1954, during the Korean Conflict, where he was stationed on a minesweeper and in the Mediterranean, where he swept the bay of Korea. Philip was a life time member and Past Commander of the Hanover VFW Post 9026, as well as, Past District 12 Commander. He was a life member of the Military Order of the Cooties Pup Tent #14, which is an Honor Degree of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 149. Following his retirement, Philip volunteered for 6 years as a driver for the DAV Transporting comrades all over the state to and from medical appointments. A true and loyal Patriot, who loved the American Flag, Philip installed a flag pole and flags for J.J. Browne Company of Hanover all over Southeastern Massachusetts. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Beverly C. (Hogquist), loving father to Debra Jean MacAllister of Hanover, Philip B. MacAllister II and wife Marie of Halifax, Russell C. MacAllister and wife Sally of Plymouth and Darlene Humes and husband Donald of Hanson. He is survived by a sister Donna Branson and her husband Jack, a nephew Justin and niece Jacqueline, all of Virginia Beach, VA. Cherished "Papa" of Stephen, Nicole, Philip, Donnie, Alan and Sarah. Also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Nephew of Ruth Layers and husband Kenneth of Wayland. He was the nephew of the late Doris McLaughlin and the late Arthur Chase. Funeral Service in Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington Street, Rte 53 in HANOVER on Monday at 11 a.m. Interment will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Visiting hours on Sunday from 2-6. Due to floral restrictions at the National Cemetery, memorial donations, in lieu of flowers may be made to the Special Olympics of Massachusetts, P.O.
