The Honourable Neale Pierre (Peter) LevequeJune 23, 1938 - April 14, 2012It is with deep sadness we announce that The Honourable Neale Pierre (Peter) Leveque passed away suddenly, though peacefully on Saturday, April 14, 2012, following a brief illness. Peter was born in Medicine Hat on June 23, 1938, and moved to Calgary at age two. After obtaining his B.Sc. in chemistry from U of A, he graduated from UBC law school in 1962 and practiced in Calgary for 15 years before being appointed a Judge of the Provincial Court of Alberta. Peter served as a Judge for over thirty years, primarily in the Family and Youth Division, and was still active as a supernumerary Judge at the time of his passing. He brought compassion, a keen intelligence and quick wit to his courtroom, never standing on ceremony. Thousands of troubled youngsters, and youngsters in trouble, appeared before him; his goal was never to inflict justice upon them, but to see that they were treated with justice and respect. He took great pride in once having sentenced a mistreated, but technically guilty, young man to attend a series of baseball games. Peter had a great joy of life and new experiences. He was a voracious reader and enjoyed photography, gardening and cooking, and was a skilled piano and guitar player. His homemade pies and ice cream were a delight to anyone who tried them. He was an avid baseball fan, and was known for his annual pilgrimage to Florida to watch spring training. Peter is survived by his children, Peter and Chris Leveque and Anne Marie (Brian) Simpson and their mother, Marianne Leveque; grandchildren Chantal (Rob), Jeffery, and Danielle Leveque and William and Megan Simpson; great-grandson, Ethan Rowan; and his companion, Gaye Gerzine. He was predeceased by his parents, Grace and Russell Leveque and grandson Samuel Simpson. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W., Calgary, AB) on Sunday, April 22, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com . Peter's family and Gaye would like to thank the staff of the Foothills ICU for their wonderful care of Peter. In living memory of Peter Leveque, a tree will be planted at Big Hill Springs Park, Cochrane.
