->McGovern, Peter FrancisPeter Francis McGovern of Pearl River, NY died Thursday, June 6, 2013 at home surrounded by his family. He was 69.Mr. McGovern worked for Verizon in Elmsford, NY for 35 years before retiring in 2001.Peter was born April 14, 1944 in Swanlinbar, Co. Cavan, Ireland to James and Bridget McGovern.Peter served in the US Army and was a member of the American Legion John H. Secor Post 329 in Pearl River.On September 5, 1970 he married Elizabeth Moloney in Bronx, NY. He has lived in Pearl River for the past 37 years. Before that, he lived in the Bronx from 1963 to 1976 and in Ireland from 1944 to 1963.Locally, he was a member of the Rockland Irish Cultural Center, American Legion, Ancient Order of Hibernians and Past President of the Rockland Gaelic Football Club.He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; children, Peter and wife Wendi, James and wife Heather and Patrick; grandchildren, Shannon, Kaitlyn, Megan, Colin and Owen. He is also survived by his siblings, Patricia of NJ, Mary Catherine, Sean and Eugene all of Ireland and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, James (1984) and Bridget (2000).A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Monday at St. Margaret R.C. Church, Pearl River. Burial will follow at Ascension Cemetery, Airmont, NY. Visiting is Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home Inc.
