Obituary of Peggy-Tyler Johnson

AIKEN, S.C. - Mrs. Peggy Tyler Johnson, 67 of New Bridge Rd. died Monday, June 27, 2005 at her home. 'Ms. Peggie', as she was affectionately known, was born in Wagener to the late Tyler and Dorris Knight Tyler, but lived most of her life in Aiken. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Frank Allen Johnson and her parents. She was a member of Redds Branch Baptist Church where she was very active. She was the director of W.O.M. for the Aiken Baptist Association until recently due to her illness. She worked as a bookkeeper for many years, starting out with Colonial which later became Big Star, and then worked with Winn Dixie. One never saw 'Ms. Peggie' without a smile on her face, and she never turned anyone down when they needed help. She loved her God first, her children, family and her church family. She was an inspiration to every life she touched. Survivors include three sons, Thomas Allen Johnson, Jeffery Wayne Johnson and Frank Tyler Johnson all of Aiken; a daughter, Debra Diann Powell, Augusta; a brother, Tom Tyler, Aiken; seven grandchildren, Patrick Johnson, Phillip Johnson, Cpl. Matthew Johnson, USMC, Jennifer Johnson, Elizabeth Johnson, Samantha Powell and Sarah Powell and a great-grandson, Brandon Johnson. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 5:30 PM at Redds Branch Baptist Church with The Rev.'s Dr. Henry Chennault and Jamie Rogers officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Patrick Johnson, Phillip Johnson, Matthew Johnson, Vince Harmon, Travis Tyler and Jason Redd. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph's Hospice or Redds Branch Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home, 715 East Pine Log Rd., Aiken, SC. Sign the guestbook at AugustaChronicle.com
