Mrs. Peggy Lucille Gardner Blackmon Bennett, age 90, died Wednesday, May 25, 2005. She was born on March 6, 1915, in Lancaster County, the daughter of the late Otis Gardner and Dessie Hilton Gardner. She was first married to the late William Carl Blackmon, and second to the late J.C. Bennett. Mrs. Bennett retired from Springs Memorial Hospital and was a member of Glenwood Heights Baptist Church. Mrs. Bennett is survived by a son, William Douglas Blackmon and his wife, Debbie, of Lancaster; three daughters, Judy Blackmon Robinson and her husband, Sonny, of Lancaster, Carlene Blackmon McCall and her husband, Joe, of Seneca, and Mary Ellen Hendrix and her husband, Danny, of West Columbia; a sister, Elaine Gardner Case of Rock Hill; eight grandchildren, Tara Blackmon, Brent Blackmon and his wife, Nina, Deborah Robinson Quay and her husband, Adam, all of Lancaster, Paige Robinson Valentine and her husband, George, of Atlanta, Ga., Gretta McCall and Blake McCall of Greenville, S.C., Mary Cayce Hendrix Rawls and her husband, Mike, and Sandra Hendrix Long and her husband, James, all of Columbia, S.C.; and nine great-grandchildren, Sara Laney Long, Matthew Long, Daniel McCall, Krista Noel Blackmon, Blade Blackmon, Juliana Carl Quay, Dace Addison Quay, Emily Rachel Valentine, and Ava Claire Valentine.Mrs. Bennett was preceded in death by two brothers, Caroll Hilton Gardner and Bill Gardner; and a sister, Marguerite Gardner McNaughton.The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mrs. Bennett will be at 11 a.m. Saturday morning, May 28, 2005, at Hartley Funeral Home Chapel, by Rev. Rick Hunter, with burial to follow at Kershaw City Cemetery.The family of Mrs. Bennett will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday evening, May 27, 2005, at Hartley Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster, and suggests memorials be made to Glenwood Heights Baptist Church, 600 Nichols Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.Hartley Funeral Home, www.hartleyfunerals.com Lancaster, SC 803-283-2100 is in charge of arrangements for Mrs. Bennett.
