PAULINE WILLIAMS TALLAHASSEE Pauline Hall Williams, age 92, died on Sunday, August 31, 2008 at Westminster Oaks in Talla hassee, FL. "Polly" was born Febrary 15, 1916 in Hereford, TX and was raised at the Presbyterian Childrens Home in Vickery, TX. She was a fierce competitor in academics and athletics and the Valedictorian in high school. After graduating from East Texas Teachers College she taught English in Winters, TX. Her devoted focus became her family when she married Dr. James Perry Williams, a dentist and Lt. Col. in the Air Force. She followed him throughout his military career, raising seven children and creating homes in Texas, Alabama, California, Korea, Arizona, and Patrick AFB in Melbourne, FL, where he retired from the military and opened a private practice. Polly and Perry were happily married for 55 years until his death in 1994. Pollys other love was the United Methodist Church and found a church home wherever they lived. At 1st UMC in Melbourne, she taught Sunday School, led the United Methodist Women and was active in the Florida Conference and mis sions work. She was a strong and fearless advocate of social justice, racial equality and the loving care of children. She was always giving, teaching and serving in the Church, within her family and among her countless number of friends. The many recipients of her kindness will always re member her boundless gener osity from her letters, phone calls, cakes, and blank checks. She has resided at the West minster Oaks retirement com munity in Tallahassee since 1998, was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, and was known for her ready smile, instant friendship and willing ness to help others. Unmothered as a child, Polly passionately made motherhood her career and passed on to her children a love of knowledge, in dependence, integrity and com passion. Polly and Perrys children and their spouses are Stan and Pam Williams of San Jose, CA; Ken and Ouida Williams of Athens, GA; Kathy Doner of Grant, FL; Shelley and David Woodyard of Tallahassee, FL; Tim and Donna Williams of Melbourne, FL; Tom and Tina Williams of Pensacola, FL; and Jill May of Tallahassee, FL. Her proudest accomplish ments include 18 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, all of whom lovingly called her "Nana." Calling hours are Friday Sep tember 5th 5-7 p.m. at Brownlie- Maxwell Funeral Home, Mel bourne. Services are Saturday September 6th at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Melbourne.
