DEAN Pauline Lillian Dean, age 89, a former resident of Stratford, died after a long illness at the Haven Health Center of Rutland, Vt. Pauline was born in St. Johnsbury, Vt., on February 13, 1914, the youngest child of the late Henry and Clara (Lizotte) Masse. She was a 1932 graduate of St. Johnsbury Academy and she later received her certification as a registered nurse from the Brightlook Hospital School of Nursing in St. Johnsbury. Pauline resided in Connecticut from the mid 19300s until 1994, when she moved back to Vermont to be closer to her family. She had been a very active member of St. James Roman Catholic Church in Stratford. Pauline was predeceased by her husband, James C. Dean; and all of her brothers and sisters; as well as by two sons, John Dean in 1978, and Clement Dean in 1983. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Dean and her husband, Curtis Hoffman, of Storrs; her son, James M. Dean and his wife, Cheryl D. Dean, of Proctor, Vt.; her daughter-in-law, Nancy Dean of Windsor; her three grandchildren; a niece; and a nephew. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 25, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. at St. James Roman Catholic Church in Stratford. Burial will be private at St. Michael0s Cemetery in Stratford. There will be no services in Vermont. Memorial contributions in memory of Mrs. Dean may be given to St. James Roman Catholic Church, 2110 Main Street, Stratford, CT 06615. The Durfee Funeral Home of Fair Haven, Vt., is in charge of the arrangements.
