Paula (Witkin) Howardaccomplished athlete and photographer NORTH ANDOVER -- Mrs. Paula (Witkin) Howard of North Andover, formerly of Lexington, suddenly entered into rest after a brief illness, April 16, 2011, aged 98 years. She was the wife of the late Henry Howard.Born in New York City, March 8, 1913, she was a daughter of the late William and Ida (Wassil) Witkin. She received her early education in the New York School System. Paula met Henry in New York City and they married in the early 1940's, living in New York, eventually moving to Lexington and more recently, to North Andover.In her youth, Mrs. Howard was an accomplished athlete, excelling in basketball and winning several gold medals for swimming. She was an avid photographer, with a special interest in historical buildings. Of particular note was her picture of the Lexington Minute Man Statue, which was featured on T-shirts sold by the Lexington Historical Society.She is survived by a son, Terry Howard, MD, and his wife, Phyllis of Chelmsford; and a daughter, Susan McCalla and her husband, Lee of Millis; three grandchildren, Jennifer (Howard) Heater and her husband, Gavin of Chelmsford, Brian Howard and his wife, Tammy of Hope Valley, RI, and Jason Howard of Brooklyn, NY; a great-grandson, Alexander Heater of Chelmsford; her sister, Harriet Perlman of Fairfield, NJ; many nieces and nephews.Her brother, George Witkin, DDS, predeceased her.HOWARD -- Funeral arrangements will be private.
