<!-- FH = Woodfin Memorial 615-893-5151 -->Paula Clark, known by so many for her lively personality and love of life, died peacefully at her home in Murfreesboro on January 3, 2011.Raised in coal mining camps in eastern Kentucky, Paula married Arlo Owen after World War II and they lived in several places before settling permanently in Murfreesboro in 1957. A few years later, she became a hairdresser and worked for many years at Penney Plaza Beauty Salon. After she was widowed, Paula married Riley Clark, who survives her. They truly enjoyed their retirement and took many trips to Florida, and spent much time with friends in Murfreesboro. Most Saturday nights, you could see her dancing with Riley at the Moose Lodge, the first ones on the floor and the last ones to leave.Paula never met a stranger. It would take her hours to do grocery shipping at Northfield Kroger - she simply had to talk to everyone in the store. In fact, it was like that wherever she went. She was renowned for her baking skills, and lucky recipients were treated to sour cream pound cakes, peanut butter cookies and her famous cheese straws.Paula loved life and managed to find fun in everything she did. She relished long phone conversations, shopping for bargains, dressing up, keeping up with friends, giving and receiving gifts - and yes - good times, good drinks (along with her every present cigarettes), and good jokes. More than anything, she loved her dogs, Dottie and Ginger.Survivors include her husband of 37 years, Riley E. Clark; her daughter, Elizabeth Owen and son-in-law, Jerry L. Smith of Nashville; step-son, Jim Clark and his wife Wendy of Union City, TN; step-grandchildren, Dusty Clark and his family of Union City, TN, and Adam Clark of San Marcos, TX. Paula's two sisters, Cleo Champagne of Mexico Beach, FL and Mary Lee of Shelbyville, TN, and their families also survive. Riley's nephew, Terry Clark and his wife Dot were very special people to Paula as well. Paula made no distinction between family and friends. She loved both equally, and because of that, she leaves so many wonderful and caring friends (from neighbors, to health care professionals, to the members of the Moose Lodge) who were there not just in the good times, but with her to the end. In particular, Paula's life was made measurably more fun and enjoyable in the last few years by her amazing friend, Myrtle Johnson. Those she left behind, she left smiling.Visitation will be held on Friday, January 7th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Woodfin Funeral Chapel in Murfreesboro. The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m., Reverend Perry Muse, former pastor of Northminster Presbyterian Church in Murfreesboro (where Riley and Paula attended for many years), will officiate.Woodfin Memorial Chapel, (615) 893-5151; www.woodfinchapel.com
