Obituary of Paul-Volney Burgess


March 25, 2009 Paul Volney Burgess, 52, of Delmar, passed away at the Hospice Inn, St. Peter's Hospital in Albany after a short illness. Born in Syracuse, he was a former resident of Manlius until he moved to Albany in 2004. He retired in September 2003 as a lieutenant from the Onondaga County Department of Correction after 26 years of service. He served as a volunteer for the DeRuyter Fire Department from 1986 to 1991 and the Manlius Fire Department from 1974 to 1985. Survivors: his wife of 15.5 years, Donna Merlau; a son, Jeremy of Manlius; his mother, Ruth Wilcox Burgess of Manlius, a sister, Robin of Manlius; two brothers, Bryan of Manlius and Todd (Judy) of Mesa, AZ; five nieces and nephews; many cousins and several aunts and uncles. He was predeceased by his father, Volney R. Burgess. Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, April 4 at Newell-Fay Funeral Home. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, 8171 Cazenovia Rd. (Rt. 92), Manlius.
