CORONADO, Calif. -- Paul R. Fournier, 72, a Lowell native and retired Navy captain and high school teacher, died Tuesday, May 10, at his home in Coronado. He was the husband of Eleanor (McFadden) Fournier.He was born in Lowell on Aug. 8, 1932, a son of the late Arthur and Lucy (Leblanc) Fournier. He graduated from high school in Lowell at Keith Academy.He began his naval career after graduation from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. Mr. Fournier served as a captain in the U.S. Navy, retiring in 1981.He was a math teacher at St. Augustine's High School in San Diego.Besides his wife, survivors include two sons and their wives, Paul Fournier Jr. and Julie Fournier of San Diego, Joseph and Staci Fournier of Singapore; two daughters and a son-in-law, Elizabeth and Sean Skelly of Waipahu, Hawaii, and Michele Fournier of San Diego; five grandsons; a brother and his wife, Roger and Pauline Fournier of Lowell; two sisters, Claire Bureau of Lowell and Lorraine Asselin of Dracut; and several nieces and nephews.Mr. Fournier was also the brother-in-law of the late Armand Bureau and Donald Asselin.A memorial Mass took place Saturday, May 14, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Coronado.
