1917-2006 Funeral services for Paul O. Gilbert 89 will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Andrew United Methodist Church in Jackson. Burial will be in Ridgecrest Cemetery. Mr. Gilbert died Saturday September 30 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. Mr. Gilbert was born in Medina Tennessee January 27 1917 one of nine children born to Allen P and Nancy C. Rhodes Gilbert. All his brothers and sisters preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife of 66 years Mary Sue Gilbert; two daughters Paula Brownyard and Nancy Robert Hopper both of Jackson; and a son Steve Gilbert of Nashville. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Ryan Brownyard Rosemary Prisock of Starkville Miss.; Whitney John Overton and Lori Hopper of Jackson; Emily Hopper of Austin Texas; Sydney and Will Gilbert of Nashville; two great-grandchildren Jake and Olivia Overton of Jackson. Mr. Gilbert was a charter member of St. Andrew where he was past president of the United Methodist Men Chairman of the Official Board Sunday school superintendent lay leader building committee chairman and listed in Whos Who in the United Methodist Church. He worked for the U.S. Department of Defense from 1942 to 1958 in arsenals in Milan Tenn. Flagstaff Ariz. Texarkana Texas and Seneca N.Y. Returning to Jackson in 1958 he was plant manager of Sumner Williams Manufacturing Co. until it was sold. He joined Dr. Scholls of Schering-Plough as national distribution manager in Jackson and retired in 1985. Mr. Gilbert was past president of the Jackson Exchange Club; a member of the board of directors and treasurer of the Jackson YMCA; chairman of the Mayors Citizens Advisory Committee; president of the Jackson Manufacturers Association and a member of the board of directors of the United Fund. A former vice-president of the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce he received the City Maker Award in 1971. He was a member of the Chambers Committee for Industrial Development and one of the 'Ten Men of Tennessee' the states first team trip to recruit industry in 1962.
