Paul MontgomeryMoultonFuneral services for Thomas Paul Montgomery, 91, of Moulton will be Friday, March 23, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Moulton First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Eric Brown officiating and Elliott Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be from noon to 1:45 p.m. at the church.Mr. Montgomery died March 20, 2012 at Lawrence County Hospital. He was born May 25, 1920, to Clarence Marvin "Buck" Montgomery and Maggie Mae Coffey Montgomery. He graduated from Lawrence County High School in 1939 and attended Massey Business College in Birmingham. He went to work for Joe Wheeler Co-op in 1940 as an electrician and was a member of the IBEW for 71 years. He was working at Reynolds Aluminum at the start of World War II and had a defense-related deferment, but turned it down to volunteer for the U.S. Navy where he served in the Pacific until the end of the war. After the war, he worked for TVA at Colbert Steam Plant, Wilson Dam, Wheeler Dam and Pickwick Dam. He also worked at the Huntsville (now Redstone) Arsenal on the original construction, and on the building of the plant which became Chemstrand (Monsanto/Solutia). In 1956, he opened Montgomery Furniture and Appliance in Moulton and operated it for 30 years. He then retired to cattle farming and land development.He was a 60-year member of Moulton First United Methodist Church, and one of the founders of the Moulton Civitan Club as well as Little League baseball in Moulton, which he coached for several years. He was a member of the American Legion since World War II. He was a two-term member of the Lawrence County Board of Education through the 1960s and early 1970s. He was also a Thirty-third Degree Mason and a Shriner.He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Everett Oneal "Neal" Montgomery and Clarence Clifton Montgomery; and sister, Maggie Lois Montgomery Almon. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Helen Terry Montgomery; sons, Andy (Laurie) and Harry (Mary Jane); and grandchildren, Robert (Sara), Carson and Meredith Montgomery; and stepmother, Helen Montgomery Parker, all of Moulton.Pallbearers will be nephews, Clay Almon, Steve Almon, Willard Terry, Arthur Warren Sanderson, Bobby Sanderson, Dwight Sanderson and Richard I. Proctor.
