2014 Paul L. Butler, III, 72, formerly of Leicester, Mass., died peacefully on Thursday, March 20, 2014, at the Barron Center of Portland, Maine, after spending a week accompanied by his family. A graduate of Middlebury College and the University of Massachusetts Amherst, his life's passions were writing poetry, teaching children and exploring the great outdoors. He was predeceased by his parents, Paul L. Butler Jr. and Dorothy W. Butler, of Leicester, Mass. He is survived by his brother, Eugene Butler and his wife, Judy, of Paxton, Mass.; and three children, David Butler and his wife, Martha, of Baltimore, Md., Danielle (Butler) Burian and her husband, Michael, of Lewiston, Maine, and Chanterelle (Butler) Atkins and her husband, Kevin, of Wiscasset, Maine. A private celebration of life will be held at Moosehead Lake in Maine. Condolences may be shared with the family through Legacy.com. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made payable to: "Treasurer, State of Maine," with a note or memo line, "Donation for Camden Hills State Park trails in memory of Paul L. Butler." These gifts will support one of his favorite locations, Mount Battie in Camden, Maine, where Edna St. Vincent Millay wrote "Renascence" in 1917, which begins: All I could see from where I stood/ Was three long mountains and a wood; I turned and looked the other way,/ And saw three islands in a bay./ So with my eyes I traced the line/ Of the horizon, thin and fine,/ Straight around till I was come/ Back to where I'd started from.
